Rochester Rhapsody’s Director, Sue Melvin, developed a love of barbershop music at an early age as a member of a local children's barbershop chorus at age 8.
She joined Rochester Chorus Sweet Adelines when she was 22 and is now a dual member of both Harmony Incorporated and Sweet Adelines International.
In addition to directing Rochester Rhapsody since 2007, she has been the front-line director for Rochester Chorus of Sweet Adelines since 1996.
Sue is also an active chorus and quartet coach, and educator, in all three barbershop organizations.
Sue has competed as a quartet singer in all 4 voice parts, and has been an International quartet qualifier in 3 different parts. Currently, she competes in 2 quartets:
●
Baritone in Running with Scissors
(Region 16 Sweet Adelines medalist and international
qualifier)
● Bass in FUSION (3-time Harmony Inc. Area 3 champions
and multi-time International medalists)

In her 'other life' Sue’s proudest accomplishments are her 3 children: Troy, Diana and Danielle. Sue and her husband Greg (Lindamood) live in Rochester.

Alfred Singer, Rochester Rhapsody's
Retired Mascot
Alfred A. Singer became a member of
Rochester Rhapsody in 2010 when he first heard the chorus
singing, the now cult-favorite tune, "Alfred Alligator" about
his adventures as a young hatchling. He has been an active
participant since, taking part in many rehearsals, guest nights,
shows, and even competitions, where he is always present to
cheer us on. Alfred grew up in the swamps of South Florida and
transferred to Rochester to be closer to his Rhapsody family.
Alfred leads a vagabond lifestyle by taking turns staying with
various chorus members and traveling around the United States
with them. Alfred is an active sports enthusiast and prides
himself at being an expert water-skier. He also enjoys watching
professional sports and has been to a number of minor league
stadiums. He most recently was spotted at the opening weekend
festivities at Yankee Stadium. Alfred has even been on the field
at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington , TX , having had his picture
taken in a famous quarterback's locker.
Finally, Alfred is an
avid runner, having completed two charity races this year and
with more planned.Alfred's other interests include gambling (he
loves local casinos and has also tried his luck in Vegas),
pretty ladies, adult beverages and of course music. He's even
been on stage with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, where
he helped lead the Christmas Pops Concert. There are many
pictures on Rochester Rhapsody's website of him enjoying himself
thoroughly in these activities.
